  • 32 years working as a trained nurse, 13 years as a heart failure specialist nurse.

  • One of the original BHF funded community heart failure nurses.

  • In 2008 appointed to develop an inpatient heart failure service in Southampton which was one of the first in the country.

  • Has been a member of the board of the British Society for Heart Failure for the past 7 years.

  • Member of the Guideline Development Group for the NICE Acute Heart Failure Guidelines.

  • In 2014 awarded a doctoral fellowship with CLARHC Wessex.

  • Research interests specialist multidisciplinary teams and factors that influence heart failure management.

  • Mantra “ right care, in the right place by the right person”.

  • Heart Failure Nurse Specialist based in Northern Ireland, leading a service for patients in hospital and community settings. 

  • 25 years experience in Cardiac Nursing at London Chest, Royal London and Homerton hospitals and for the last 12 years as a Heart Failure Nurse serving a predominantly rural community in County Down.

Joanna Davies

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Heart Function

Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro

  • Qualified as a Nurse in 1995 and has worked primarily in a variety of Cardiology settings prior to taking up the lead role to set up and deliver the inpatient heart failure nursing service at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in 2008.

  • Under her leadership the service has evolved from an inpatient only heart failure service to one which has expanded to provide out-patient services including nurse delivered rapid access ‘one stop’ diagnostic clinics and complex device pre-implant counselling under the umbrella of ‘heart function specialist nursing service’. This expansion also included audit personnel to collect and upload data to the national heart failure audit.

  • With support from the new Heart Failure clinical lead, Dr Parminder Chaggar, the service now also provides a nurse delivered, secondary care based, advanced heart failure clinic.

  • Is a Nurse Independent Prescriber and an ardent advocate for gold standard heart failure care.  Through her practice she has recognised the benefit of non-medical prescribing to facilitate delivery of such care.

  • She is currently working towards an advanced practice MSc.

Lucy Girdler-Heald

Heart Failure Team Leader

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

  • Busy and tired working mum of three teenagers !!! 

  • Heart Failure Team Leader in East Berkshire covering Slough, Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead and Bracknell.

  • Works alongside a team of 5 heart failure nurses and 1 admin with a caseload of approx. 400 patients.

  • The Team do home visits and also have 3 community nurse led heart failure clinics.

  • Has been a Heart Failure Nurse for 10 years in England and Australia and prior to that I worked in a cardiac care unit in Reading.  

  • Has recently completed an MSC in advanced practice and am passionate about the future of Heart Failure nurses.

Carys Barton (Deputy Chair)

  • Clinical and Operational Lead  for Cardiology at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust.

  • Lead Nurse for Heart Failure

  • British Society of Heart Failure Board Observer

  • Passionate in the development and education of Heart Failure Specialist Nurses.

  • Special interest in Palliative Care in Heart Failure.

  • Has worked as a Senior Cardiology Nurse in several specialist centres since 1990.

Louise Clayton

Heart Failure Advanced Nurse Practitioner           University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust

  • A heart failure specialist for 18 years and still enjoys seeing patients every day.

  • Experience of setting up community and hospital based services as well as a strategic role in local region.

  • Instrumental in establishing one of the first acute heart failure units in the country and also runs an urgent heart failure service where patients are seen within 72 hours of referral.

  • Passionate about all issues relating to heart failure and the support of those working within this specialty.

  • Particular interests are: raising awareness across the public and healthcare domains to enable patients getting to the right care in a timely manner; multidisciplinary working; and palliative care.

  • Currently a council board member of the British Society of Heart Failure.

  • Looking forward to this challenging role and excited to see what we can achieve working together!

Linda Edmunds

Consultant Nurse for Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation Services

  • Worked within cardiac nursing for more than 30 years and the last 16 years as Consultant Nurse for Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation

  • Has been an active member of both BACPR and BANCC council along with the Cardiac Network in Wales and Welsh Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation Group.

  • Has an interest in the older person with cardiac disease and is an Older Person’s Nurse Fellow

  • Has an interest in developing self-management and patient activation to engage people in their care.

  • Currently developing an integrated heart failure service across secondary and primary care.
