Clinical Nurse Specialist, Heart Function

Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro

  • Qualified as a Nurse in 1995 and has worked primarily in a variety of Cardiology settings prior to taking up the lead role to set up and deliver the inpatient heart failure nursing service at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in 2008.

  • Under her leadership the service has evolved from an inpatient only heart failure service to one which has expanded to provide out-patient services including nurse delivered rapid access ‘one stop’ diagnostic clinics and complex device pre-implant counselling under the umbrella of ‘heart function specialist nursing service’. This expansion also included audit personnel to collect and upload data to the national heart failure audit.

  • With support from the new Heart Failure clinical lead, Dr Parminder Chaggar, the service now also provides a nurse delivered, secondary care based, advanced heart failure clinic.

  • Is a Nurse Independent Prescriber and an ardent advocate for gold standard heart failure care.  Through her practice she has recognised the benefit of non-medical prescribing to facilitate delivery of such care.

  • She is currently working towards an advanced practice MSc.
